1) Click on the Apple Menu, and choose System Preferences.



2) Click on Network



3) If you find Network settings are greyed out, as shown below, click on the lock icon in the lower left corner to enter your admin password. If not, move to section 5





4) Enter your administration name and password for the computer. You will have assigned this when initially setting up your mac




5) Click on the menu next to Show and select Internal Modem.

6) Next, click on the tab TCP/IP



7) Drop down to Using PPP in the configure menu

8) Leave the DNS servers and Search Domains fields empty.


9) Next click on the PPP tab.

For service provider type Freeserve AnyTime
For Account Name, enter your Freeserve username, the part of your Freeserve email address after the ‘@’ sign, eg yourname.fsnet.co.uk
For password, enter your Freeserve password (remember it’s case sensitive and make sure that Save password is checked.
Enter the telephone number 0808 9933256 (note: if you withold your telephone number, prefix the dial up number with 1470. If you are not sure, try calling a mobile telephone from your landline as a test.

10) You can leave the Proxies settings alone.

11) The next tab to click on is Modem




Choose the modem from the drop down list of modems. In most cases this will be Apple Internal 56k Modem (v.90)

Tick the box marked Enable error correction. Also tick the box marked Show modem status in menu bar

12) Now click the Apply Now button in the lower right hand corner, and quit System Preferences by pressing Apple - Q on your keyboard.





13) You are now ready to connect to the Internet You can do by clicking on the telephone symbol in the top right hand corner of your desktop and selecting Connect



14) Once you are connected to the Internet, open your browser, for example Internet Explorer or Safari, to view webpages.

15) To disconnect from the Internet, simply click on the phone icon, and select Disconnect
